چکیده

This paper concerns shot boundary detection in digital video. Automatic video segmentation is a first step towards video indexing. An efficient yet robust algorithm is needed to separate video sequences into smaller segments called shots. Although many researchers have tackled the problem of finding shot boundaries, few have been able to accurately detect gradual transition boundaries such as fades and dissolves. Because shot boundaries correspond to discontinuities in the time domain, we present an algorithm based on the video’s first-order partial derivatives. By only considering areas with low apparent motion, our method is insensitive to object or camera motion. Our algorithm can accurately detect cuts as well as fades, dissolves, wipes and other gradual transitions. Experimental results show that our method outperforms other popular methods on our sample videos.

A Support Vector Machine Approach for Video Shot Detection

The first step towards indexing and content based video retrieval is video shot detection. Existing methodologies for video shot detection are mostly threshold dependent. No prior knowledge about the video content makes such methods sensitive to video content. To ameliorate this shortcoming we propose a learning based methodology using a set of features that are specifically designed to capture...

Shot Detection and Motion Analysis for Automatic MPEG-7 Annotation of Sports Videos

In this paper we describe general algorithms that are devised for MPEG-7 automatic annotation of Formula 1 videos, and in particular for camera-car shots detection. We employed a shot detection algorithm suitable for cuts and linear transitions detection, which is able to precisely detect both the transition’s center and length. Statistical features based on MPEG motion compensation vectors are...

Video shot-boundary detection using singular-value decomposition and statistical tests

In this paper, we deal with video shot-cut detection in digital videos using singular value decomposition (SVD). SVD is performed on a matrix, whose columns are the 3D frame color histograms. We have used SVD for its capabilities to derive a refined low dimensional feature space from the high dimensional raw feature space, where similar video patterns are placed together and can be easily clust...

An Evaluation of Video Cut Detection Techniques

Accurate detection of shot transitions plays an important role on automatic analysis of digital video contents, and it is a key issue for video indexing and summarization, amongst other tasks. This work presents in more detail a novel strategy, based on the concept of visual rhythm, to automatically detect sharp transitions or cuts in arbitrary videos. The central part of the work is a comparat...

TREC-10 Shot Boundary Detection Task: CLIPS System Description and Evaluation

This paper presents the system used by CLIPS-IMAG to perform the Shot Boundary Detection (SBD) task of the Video track of the TREC-10 conference. Cut detection is performed by computing image di erence after motion compensation. Dissolve detection is performed by the comparison of the norm over the whole image of the rst and second temporal derivatives. An output lter is added in order to clean...
